COAHCE: Smart Health: Challenges, Opportunities and Applications for Healthcare within Context-Aware Environments

Call for Paper Flyer

Aims and Scope

The provision of health services is globally changing to take better care of an increasingly demanding population. Using information and communication technologies (ICT) in healthcare processes has given birth to electronic health (e-Health) and mobile health (m-Health). Also, in the context of smart cities and context-aware environments, the concept of smart health  (s-Health) has been recently proposed as a step forward in the provision of healthcare services within environments with sensing capabilities.
The aim of this special session is to explore the recent advances in smart health and to identify the challenges and opportunities that this research area will face in the near future. Smart health is gaining special attention because it has an enormous potential to improve and augment other well-established m-health solutions. The remote monitoring of patients is an example in which smart health could contribute to reduce the costs of national healthcare systems and also to improve the quality of life of patients, for example by facilitating the early release from hospitals.

The topics might include (but are not limited to):

  • Sensors for e-health, m-health and s-health
  • Ethical, Privacy & Security Issues in s-health
  • Wearable devices for s-health
  • Robotics and s-Health symbiotic approaches
  • s-Health and Ambient Assisted Living
  • Market impact and analysis of s-Health
  • Real experiences of m-health and s-health applications with patients
  • Wireless Body Area Networks for s-health
  • Interoperability between m-health, s-health and smart environments
  • Cloud infrastructures for s-health
  • Pilot tests and case studies
